Headshots and Portraits
CREATIVE HEADSHOTS FOR THE METRO ORLANDO AREA
Artist-quality headshots and executive portraits enhance your professional and personal presence. The headshot session is both an easy and painless process that is focused, yet relaxed, designed with 40+ years of experience to bring out your personality in the pictures. Images are customized first to your tastes, needs and desires. Secondly, with a solution in mind: such as career advancement, personal presence, audience engagement or naturally looking good. I strive to create a striking image that your audience will recognize the level of care in the process, enabled by my photographic expertise and knowledge of people’s mentality in various industries.
Remember, the images are a reflection of you, how you want to be seen and how the world will see you. They are NOT about me, you being told what looks great. At the end of the session it is about a great and comfortable experience as well as great images.
What Makes Me Stand Out?
I take great pride in communicating with my clients to not only provide great images but a great experience too. Customer service, responsiveness and dedication are really important to me. Headshot sessions can be done on location, in a studio setting or outdoors in the wonderful natural lighting we experience daily here in Florida.
I have been a working photographer for over 40 years doing a variety of projects. I was sponsored for the Pulitzer Prize in Breaking News Photography in 2017. I also teach photography - including portraits - at numerous venues across Florida. I do also have an Orange County Business License and have full insurance coverage. Is insurance coverage important - YES! As a business owner I am responsible for my equipment, my client's property and the venue we choose. I have never had to file a claim either. If the venue requires proof of insurance, my carrier will print and send them a certificate of insurance upon request.
Black and White - Monochrome – Portraits.
Why work in Black & White?
There’s something that appeals to each of us in great black and white photography. The images have a timeless quality. Black and white images can be striking, engaging, breathtaking, and incredibly moody.
A greyscale image is a bit surreal. It is a tacit reminder that all photography is surreal We see I color, that is how we have evolved. The use of Black & White strips away the color and makes us analyze further, see the deeper meaning.
Color can be a great distraction. The human eye is attracted to color just like a child picking out candy. Sometimes color can complicate the obvious, while trivializing the momentus. If color is inherent to your desired images – wonderful! If you would like to delve into black & white – wonderful!.
Taking that initial step of putting your toe into the black & white waters is huge. It is a forced constraint and constraint fosters creativity.
Greyscale images feel timeless, and photos are simultaneously dated and undated because of this process. New things feel classical; old things feel contemporary. (It’s sort of the opposite of nostalgic — the images are not presenting that old-timey feeling, they’re actually removed from time.)
If you want to shoot fashion, shoot in color, If you want emotion, shoot in black and white
For my black and white images, I actually pick up a different camera all together. I use a digital camera ONLY capable of capturing a monochrome image – it has no color array (Bayer Filter). For me, it is just like shooting film again, as I did in my very early days of Plus-X, Tri-X and TMax. Black and white is not about color conversion or desaturation, so common today in the digital world.
Black and white photography removes any distraction of color and helps the viewer focus on other aspects of the photo, such as the subject, the textures, shapes and patterns and the composition. My choice in lenses add to the image appeal, as they are the classic aesthetic and compact designs that remain unchanged from the 1930’s except for glass technology. These lenses still produce a timeless vintage look with tack sharp focusing and creamy smooth bokeh.
The fact that I am using a black and white only digital rangefinder camera – means the my mindset, my vision must be in black and white. I am not looking through the lens as a DSLR would. It is in my mind’s eye that I must previsualize the image, the effect of on camera contrast filters, the effect of aperture and the final composition. Black and white – true Black and White - demands so much more from a photographer. It demands the photographer use their imagination, it demands that the photographer think about what they are doing and understand what it is they wish to achieve.
What Makes A Great Headshot?
There's more that goes into a great headshot than most people realize. But, it all starts with a conversation. A headshot is a way to make a great first impression and connect with your clients or audience. It should capture your personality, your character and your style. It should highlight your confidence and charisma.

Q. How many people are included in these prices.
A. The headshot sessions can be converted into a couple’s package for an additional $100 plus Florida Sales Tax
Q. Is retouching included in the package pricing?.
A. Light retouching for color balance, sharpness, contrast and so forth is included for base images. Full digital retouching including changing of eye color and makeup can be completed for about $40 per image plus FL Sales Tax. My goal is a natural great looking headshot. Retouching corrections can result in an image that may look great, but does not reflect you or your personality.
Q. Where does the shoot take place?
A. The majority of the sessions will take place in Metro Orlando**. If your needs require something different, I am available to shoot using a rented location such as Cypress Grove Estate, Leu Gardens or travel beyond Metro Orlando. A portable studio set up can be brought to any location, including your home, for a nominal fee to cover both set up and breakdown. Please contact me and I will gladly customize part or all of your session.
**Metro Orlando is defined as an 18 mile radius from the Sea World area.
Q. How should I dress for my session?
A. For the headshot packages, it is very straightforward. I will address only shirts, tops and jackets. You should bring plenty of options to the shoot, we will review the choices before the shoot and select your best options, but here are some things to consider:
Always bring clothes that match your style and personality.
Avoid black clothes or white clothes, they tend to lose detail in some photographs. I will shoot with a hand-held light meter and other tools to optimize lighting. Pastels work best for both ladies and gentlemen. If blacks and whites are important, I can and will make them “work” in the images
Stay away from clothes with busy patterns. Solid colors are typically best. If patterns are your style – bring a few with you and we will select some options.
Make sure any clothes that you bring are clean and neatly pressed. The camera will always find the wrinkles we do not see. Adjustments to shirts will happen throughout the seesion – I want both you and your selected outfit at its best.
Blue Jeans look great on for some portfolio shots.
Q. How long before I see my proof images?
A. For most headshot sessions , expect about three to five business days to get your gallery of images. You will be delivered by email or text a link to the gallery with a password (you can choose your own password, if desired). Feel free to share it with friends and family. You will not be able to download from the gallery and all images will be watermarked. Once you make your retouching selections it is typically another three to five business days before your final, edited images are delivered to you. Should you be working under the constraint of a deadline, please let me know, we will discuss your needs and how best to accommodate them.
Q. I am new at this, what do I need in my portfolio?
A. As an actor, actress or model, the type of shots you will need is determined by a few factors including, but not limited to, your market (where you live and work), your acting or modeling type (what you look and act like), the parts you attend casting calls for. You should consider the following:
If you have one, consult your agent on what would be best. They have experience in the industry. I will complete a 10 shot portfolio, which includes two head shots , two full length standing shots, two seated shots. The four remaining shots will be focused on your type of modeling/acting and the look you wish to show. This shows directors and agents what you look like. Many people will use one image in a comp card to be left behind after a casting call. This could be one of the portfolio images or an opportunity to use a completely different image. If you are using an odd shape card, I will work with you to format the photograph to the card.
If you do not have a style of modeling or acting at the time of the session, we will capture a number of looks in a number of wardrobe changes. Remember, the portfolio highlights you and your personality, it is a collaboration between you and the photographer – the best images come from a comfortable session with a relaxed subject.
You want an image that has impact! Today, the vast majority of casting is done online. Casting directors scan through large numbers small thumbnails to determine the initial round of auditions. That means yours must stand out from the others.
Q. "What is a comp card?"
A. This is usually the first question I hear when I address the topic with an actor. Which is surprising, given what a great marketing tool it can be.
Comp card is short for composite card, which is used by actors and models for commercial print auditions and self-promotion. The average size is 6”x9”, with a headshot on the front and 3-5 images on the back.
The purpose is to show as much variety as possible, so the casting director can envision you as different types. Ideally the images on the back should look like tear sheets from magazine ads. Comp cards are NOT just for models- every actor should have one as well. Generally, a model’s comp card is editorial (like a spread in Vogue Magazine), while an actor’s comp card is lifestyle (talking on a cell phone or hailing a cab). Fashion work is reserved for models, but there’s a ton of print work for actors. Advertisers are always looking for attractive, everyday people to sell their products.
A comp card is an important resource in addition to a headshot. It allows you to introduce yourself to industry professionals in a much more diverse way than with a headshot alone. If you’re looking for a commercial agent, submitting with a comp card will give you a much better chance of meeting them, because you’re showing them a variety of looks. They’ll see you as significantly more likely to book a job, be it print or on camera. If you already have a commercial agent, a comp card will allow them to submit you for print work as well as on camera and voice overs. It opens up an entire new avenue to generate income.
